enamelled glass mosaic

I enjoy creating thematic series often inspired by nature. An illustration of this are mosaics from the cycle Bark of Trees. I used enamelled glass from the Orsoni family glassworks in Venice, Italy, to work on this cycle. Each "cube" of the image is hand-chopped with mosaic pliers or a  cliff hammer.  The image is processed by a direct technique, where the cubes are placed in putty directly on the base. Thus achieving a rough surface of the image, just as with tree bark. The colour of the glass mortar is underlined by the lines of the individual types of bark. J. H.
