"Jan Heres's solo exhibition, Hell at the Villa Hans Ulrich, presents a selection of the artist's latest series, created after his artistic internship in Taiwan this year...
...In the paintings we find, among other things, a guardian lion, the mythological animal Kirin, which symbolizes good luck and longevity, and terrifying sculptures of angry Niu warriors - the Buddha's protectors from evil. The individual motifs, as well as the complete exhibition series, are interwoven with Buddhist teachings, but do not attempt to be mere banal illustrations of the faith. Heres uses the symbolism of specific motifs, working with moral allegories, combining them with his own imagination and surreal moments. The layers of spirituality or the vision of humanity can thus be seen in the context of contemporary socio-political moods and situations. Part of the text for the exhibition: M. Stolárik"
