The painting is part of the series ‘Who is the most beautiful in the world?’. In the theme I addressed the view of beauty from the perspective of two generations. In the painting ‘Duplication’ I explored the question of difference and similarity with a close person.
‘By choosing to paint my mother, I simultaneously become the “other” in whose face she seeks her own reflection, and dialectically she becomes the ’other" through whom I seek to know myself as difference, as transformation. I myself become a projection. But this relationality is dialectical - my mother becomes the image of what I am or what I will be’. A. S.
