“Once we were discussing with Sancho how to possibly improve tramping. The only thing we came up with was if springs contained booze and does wore laced lingerie.”
I focused on the Czechoslovakian tramping phenomenon, more precisely the tramping community around Bratislava in 1980s, whose member was also my father. In the first part of my work, I researched into tramping and its history, I tried to define tramping itself - I looked for its core principles. I got in touch with my father’s old tramping acquaintances and made an interview with each of them.
The result of the project is this ceramic plastique, in which I utilized the escape from reality as the key element of tramping. I satirically react to the perception of flawlessness with which all the old tramps recall their tramping days. Most of them perceive tramping as the happiest period of their lives. Even though real experiences are the cornerstone of their memories, dreams and ideals, which they projected into tramping, do play a crucial role, too.
The plastique is a hand-sculpted unique which is not a part of any series. E. A.
