Book Synopsis and the Dreamlike Poetics of the Illustrations

In the eyes of a small child, the whole world fits — as big as buttons. And within it lies everything: dew in the grass, fireflies in the leaves, a mother smelling of strawberries, and a grandmother who is right here with us.

Milena Lukešová, a prominent figure in Czech poetry for children, listens in these verses to the world around us. Playfully, purely, and unhurriedly, she guides readers through the changing seasons and the magic of everyday little things. This new selection of poems by Milena Lukešová is here for everyone who wishes to enter a child's sensory experience of every new day we wake up to.

Filip Pošivač's illustrations open the poems like a window into a world — curious and full of light. With his dreamlike poetics, he builds upon previous successful book series, such as his illustrations for poems by Petr Borkovec or Josef Václav Sládek. Filip Pošivač is a Czech Lion Award winner and an artist inscribed on the prestigious international IBBY Honour List for children's illustration (known, among other works, for his feature film Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light or the bedtime animated series Hungry Bear Tales).
